The Tourist Hotel, Narrabri
The core of this piece lies within the potential of architecture to act as a shell to culture and belonging. This hotel, since 1902, has become a landmark amongst it’s rich landscape, housing the heart of the community from young budding creators to the local farmer and his dog.
Carved from lino, a timeless ode to all this hotel has, and will continue to serve us.
The Medium
My favorite medium is lino. This piece has been a labor of love, taking over 80 hours as I hand-carved each curve, line, and detail from a sheet of lino. This process requires me to reverse the design, essentially turning it inside out. I adore the intimacy of this method and the meticulous attention it demands to achieve clean details while embracing a sense of imperfection. You can see the humanness in the design—the connection and time invested—which is why I cherish this process so much
